Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge for your business features?

Nothing — we don’t charge businesses a fee to be featured on Black-Owned Brooklyn. Our work is a labor of love for people, places and products that we truly enjoy!

Can you feature my pop-up event/crowdsourcing campaign/sale/grand opening?

As a general policy we don’t cover pop-ups, Kickstarters, special sales or businesses that haven’t opened yet. We strive to make Black-Owned Brooklyn a refreshing space on the internet and, accordingly, stay disciplined to our storytelling format. However, if you think yours is particularly intriguing, feel free to let us know about it.

Black-Owned Brooklyn?! Can you imagine if there was a White-Owned Brooklyn??

Yes. We can. 🙄

Do you run paid advertisements on your page?

No, not at this time.

Can you recommend a Black-owned [fill in the blank]?

Black-Owned Brooklyn is not an all-purpose business directory but a curated, constantly updated guide. As such, we’re not in the practice of recommending businesses we have not covered.

When are you going to do another pop-up market?

Stay tuned — and sign up for updates at the bottom of this page!

How can I get a business featured on Black-Owned Brooklyn?

Feel free to tell us a little about the business. We’re happy to consider it!

While there’s no rigid set of criteria — we pick what we like — there are two basic requirements:

  • A business that we’ve experienced for ourselves. We personally vouch for everything we cover here.

  • A business with an interesting story: longstanding ties to Brooklyn, cultural significance, extraordinary products or services, an unusual origin story, exquisite presentation and attention to detail, among other factors we find compelling.

You can make your case for why we should cover a business by emailing team@blackownedbrooklyn.com. Due to high volume, we’re unable to personally reply to every message. But we read every message we get and will let you know if we decide to do a story.
